In 1990, Sid Hoeltzell relocated his studio from NYC's PHOTO-DISTRICT
to the
Miami DESIGN DISTRICT. In New York, after pursuing his degree in
pre-med Biology at SUNY@Buffalo, he graduated Magna Cum Laude at
the Fashion Institute of Technology, N.Y.C., where he later became
Adjunct Professor in Photography. Sid also held seminars at the NYC
Photo-Expos in Hand-coloring techniques. Mr. Hoeltzell continues
to teach at the Miami Ad School and maintains his 2500 sq/ft. full
time studio-gallery/loft in the Wynnwood Design District of Miami.
Well if your gonna count.... ten (12) Addys (four for liquor advertising)
and one International Silver Clio (Johnnie Walker Black), American
Photographer Magazine -1998/ Winner-Humor Category, and even an Addy
for commissioned art-work for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (including
over 309 commissioned works). Sid worked with Sydney Pollack and
Harrison Ford as consultant for a photography studio scene in "Random
Hearts" filmed in Miami. "That was a lot of fun".
The last gold Addys were for a Ryder Truck still-life campaign-2006,
as well as being noted on page 192 (four of eight images0 for the
Ryder Truck ads in GRAPHIS ADVERTISING ANNUAL 2006. 2007 Silver Addy for martini work for RCCL Liberty of the Seas. Mr Hoeltzell was aagin published in the new Alcove Book "The Art of Seeing". Noted is his work on the Island of Maui.
"It was also cool to be working for the Vatican Museums for
six weeks. One of the best assignments I ever had. Just walking
around documenting art." Currently, there is an ongoing book
project involving the Florida Everglades. " I have never bought
into the remark about being a specific "category" photographer.
Markets change yet skills do not. When you have the eye and full
knowledge of all the technical skills, that's the edge." Mr.
Hoeltzell has mastered 8x10 studio photography and been rigorously
proven by assignments in location/fashion and lifestyle. Working
outside the studio has the greater challenge; that of completing
the creative assignment while controlling the "unexpected".
Even photographing underwater, his stunning images of Olympic swimmers
have draped 50 ft. down building sides in NYC. The studio-loft
is a creative workshop using traditional 8x10,4x5,and 6x7 film
formats, but predominantly HI-RES (96MG)
digital capture, with a twin MAC G-5 station , location MAC powerbook G4, iMac
portable stations. Additionally, Sid's clients have the benifit of an EPSON 9600 multiple fine-art printing facility to serve
Sid's commission assignments (often those 44"x84" wall
prints). " I work with clients who trust me to deliver and
bring home the chrome... or negative or digital file, thats what's
required these days. But you better have fun doing it ." As
of 11/06, there will be a full service Pay-Pal store for fine art
purchases from the Cruise ship commissions series.
Since 2003, Sid has accepted occasional editorial assignment that
have produced dynamic photographic images. "When I walk into
a new visual environment with my subject, the image in the viewfinder
is formed by an instinctual decision... the 'prima linea'. The
first line drawn always works the best, and the same rule of '
first line' continually works in the studio environment as well.
This instinctual direction is the sum of all my artistic experience
and that's why people come to work with me." |
